    The problem with gyrojets (based on the real-life experimental weapons) lies in the fact that they're practically useless at point-blank range, as they require travel time to reach maximum velocity once they leave the barrel.

    • @DowntheRabbitHole0
      @DowntheRabbitHole0 2 дня назад

      but don't you think their damage potential is also kinda weak?

    • @GojiKaichou
      @GojiKaichou 2 дня назад

      @@DowntheRabbitHole0 depends on range. If it's point-blank or short range, the damage as written should apply. As range increases, so should damage. Since at medium to long range the gyrojet projectile has reached max velocity, there's also overpenetration and possible shrapnel in a small area. A gyrojet round should be treated like a bolter round in Warhammer 40k. A small rocket propelled grenade that can pierce moderate armor if it's travelling fast enough.

    Yeah, there was so much more effort in finding people, it just felt different to have a name connected to an address in print. Once things became so much easier to research and people to locate it sort of changed how all of this felt. Still, while I'm old enough to remember seeing these things in print I'm still shocked to see them now, since now-me knows how low-effort unwanted contact can be :) It's great that they managed to facilitate these sorts of meetups, however frequent it really was. We have a lot more connections now but a lot more fear... makes me wonder how easy it is to find a pick up group you actually want to play a game with

  • @nutherefurlong

    As a kid I think I did wonder at the Telosian connection. I also thought of this as one of the more interesting episodes from when I'd watched it once a long time ago, one of the most memorable. When I watched it again on disc it landed a bit different, but I'd probably need to see it yet again to really cement my opinion. Her healing ability is more interesting that the usual miraculous healing you see in SF or fantasy, there's a cost of sorts. It's got a big heart... it's too bad this is the screenwriter's only credit as far as I can tell. Something that just occurred to me... there are stories where a species is on a doomed world and because the prime directive prevents contact with pre-warp species (I think that's the criteria?) they have to be left to their fate. What the heavies of the episode are doing is twistedly reminiscent of this, only getting to the heart of what the Federation is supposedly about, species willing to work together or, in this case, perform self-sacrifice for the betterment of others. Only their program, as awful as it is, is accelerated, direct, and potentially will save the species in a way that the Federation wouldn't (unless rules are broken). It doesn't justify their methods but both are advanced groups passing judgement on people they happen upon, despite having the power to save them and maintain galactic diversity...

    • @DowntheRabbitHole0
      @DowntheRabbitHole0 4 дня назад

      Definitely an episode with a lot of heart. Some commenters have told me it was DeForest Kelley's favorite. Interesting the point you made about these institutions passing judgement on other species, I hadn't really thought about that before but you're right.

    OK, well... you know what? I like this more, because I was sort of disillusioned when I'd heard the opposite. Some of the emblems looked weird (the rug) and I thought it would work against the point of emblems like that, to identify people belonging to a significant group. If every ship had different symbols it'd be hard to keep track, although I guess it'd add a sense of pride for each ship. Still feel like a lot of the uniforms depicted should still be considered as "Starfleet" though, maybe it's more belonging to a ship of the line or whatever the slightly less anachronistic version of that term would be. Surprising that this was solved so recently!

    • @DowntheRabbitHole0
      @DowntheRabbitHole0 5 дней назад

      I'm right here with you. My buddy was a huge Trek fan when we were kids and when he told me each ship has its own insignia I thought that didn't make a lot of sense in a big organization like Starfleet. Late to comment on this video. Did you see the 3d printed kit for sale that converts this machine to a 1/6 size? Also available for the space invaders. Great review!

      I did and sadly that guy replied to me that he's not making those kits anymore "this summer". Maybe in the fall? I hope so cuz I'd love one for my Elevator Action that I got from My Arcade.

    I don't know how well it would work with super humid summer days (which they all seem to be now). It was 26C today but with like 90% humidity it feels 35C all the time which just sucks.

    • @DowntheRabbitHole0
      @DowntheRabbitHole0 21 день назад

      Yeah admittedly with oppressive humid heat this wouldn't be of much use. But it's working great for me so far.

    I like it. I loved gadgets in my early life but this one I would probably get in my old age now. Excelsior. Ps.....are you getting the pc adaptor for your psvr2 ?

    • @DowntheRabbitHole0
      @DowntheRabbitHole0 21 день назад

      Thanks del, this little gizmo works great. Alas my laptop is way too old and slow for any kind of PCVR so that adaptor would be completely useless for me. Maybe if I get a gaming rig someday but then I'd need to lug it into the room with my headset and honestly, after today's VR Showcase announcements I'm full of gaming for PSVR2 for a long time.
